Capella Space launched its first operation satellite, Capella-2, in August 2020 and now provides very high resolution (50cm) SAR imagery for any location in the world. With access to high quality imagery, a critical component of the needs of Geospatial Insight’s extensive client base, the cementing of a reseller partnership with Capella, which was announced earlier this year, was an obvious decision to further extend our capabilities in the delivery of global event response and asset intelligence.
The Atlantic season 2020 has now officially come to a close with a record-breaking 30 named storms, of which 6 developed into major hurricanes. The season began earlier than expected with Tropical Storm Arthur forming in mid-May and closed with major Hurricane Iota last month.
On August 4th 2020 a vast mushroom cloud hung over the city of Beirut, created by a colossal explosion in the city’s port. With nearly 200 people dead, and over 6,000 injured, this has now been classified as one of the largest non-nuclear blasts in history, caused by 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate stored unsafely in a dock-side warehouse.
